Haunted Clocks

There are many tales of hauntings all over the world, most of them occurring in old houses, churches, and buildings or around old furniture. Grandfather clocks are just among many an antique furniture with ghost stories revolving around them.
One cannot know the mysteries surrounding these grandfather clocks that have been around far longer than anybody else. Throughout their long lifetimes, these antique grandfather clocks have seen their fair share of intrigues and tragedies. They have stood witness to betrayals, suicides, and maybe even a murder or two. So are there tormented souls lurking in grandfather clocks? You decide if you want to believe it or not. The stories are just around for the taking.

The State of Nevada's Governor's Mansion has a beautiful 275-year-old George Fowler grandfather clock in its depths. It's an intricate piece of work, sporting three dimensional Chinese and Japanese imagery and scenery. It's also believed to be haunted.
This grandfather clock reportedly opens and slams shut its doors on its own accord with no wind or disturbance to speak of. Sightings of a woman in a white dress have been reported around the clock's vicinity. The mansion's coordinator, Helen Wiemer, once found a piece of cloth, so old that it was already yellowing with age, and a rusty jar lid close to the clock, prompting her to employ the services of Thomas J. Bartels, a renowned floor clock restorer. He has since restored the clock to its former glory, but what of the ghost? Only time will tell.

Another mysterious tale revolved around a clock that was passed through several generations of a family from Denver, Colorado. For five generations, the clock marked the passing of several family members by stopping at the very moment of their deaths.
Because of this phenomenon, a man put a stop to clock's mechanism and put it in storage. He died shortly thereafter. His daughter, anxious to put a stop to the clock's mysterious connection to her family, sold it and it became one of the many grandfather clocks still available for sale today. Perhaps you might find yourself in possession of it and you can prove the stories around it for yourself.

A collector of possessed possessions, John Zaffis recently came into ownership of a clock believed to be haunted by its unfortunate owners. The family inherited the clock from a deceased relative and decided to keep it. Unfortunately, the clock started emitting smoke like that of the original owner's. They immediately disposed of the clock and have since reported a calmness to their home with no more haunting. Whether or not the clock has continued to haunt its new owner is unknown.

Indeed, grandfather clocks are timepieces that are unparalleled in elegance. Coming across an antique one is a very good find indeed and could be a valuable treasure. But beware for you never know what mysteries it might hold and what spirits might be lurking in its midst.
